Can we get a new set of pundits please?

James Wolcott quotes Patrick Lang at length today about the pundit class fretting about Plamegate. He makes the good point that these people seem to be unable to separate themselves from the people they are charged with covering. Richard Cohen gets a special mention for his wankfest last week. Mr. Cohen also deserves a special beatdown for his lame article on abortion and Roe v. Wade. He blithley dismisses the consequences if Roe is overturned with the statement (paraphrased here) "Big states will keep abortion legal and some small states will outlaw it so most women won't have a problem. And I don't really care too much about those women who might have to travel to get an abortion." Thanks Dick. Since you or your relatives will never have to face this choice I guess it doesn't take much courage to wipe out the rights of millions of women not rich enough to drive to an abortion-friendly state. Asshole.

And do I get a pony?

From Ignatius in the WaPo today:
"The real political milestone is the December balloting to elect a new, permanent government. The good news for people who want to see a secular Iraq is that the Sistani-backed clerical list is almost certain to get fewer votes than it did in the Jan. 30 balloting. And possibly, just possibly, enough Sunnis, Kurds and secular Shiites will vote for alternative lists to allow a new ruling coalition of secular parties, perhaps allied with religious ones, which might link arms across the Shiite-Sunni divide. Such a coalition might be headed by a secular Shiite politician, such as the wily Ahmed Chalabi or former prime minister Ayad Allawi."

These guys will tell themselves happy stories even as the last helicopter is lifting off from Baghdad.

Why am I here?

Why did I create this blog? Why not needlessly fill up more bandwidth with nonsensical drivel and uninformed opinions. Soon we will all have our own blog and will have no need to read others. Our isolation will be complete. Anyway, if I ever post here again, it will probably be concerning politics...or the Civil War...or why I am cursed to be a Seattle sports fan. I'm sure these topics will be enthralling to me and me alone.
